New song chorus

my father would listen to the shipping on four and told me what the seas would bring that day, and "fenders spread like wings, we scattered light into the half-astoria".

Five Weeks In Nebraska lyrics

this place terrifies! it's new (but close to what i left behind) - but i'll settle in time. for now, i'll just deliver my lines; oh, my lines, learn the moves (and compromise).

one day at a time...

and if i fall asleep tonight, at least i know the panic's on the other side. so i'm delicate (so delicate) careful, and confident that this will be all i need - so take my hands, and run. with me.

this, oh this was never going to be enough for you! call the search away, and i will guide you home.

nervous (shh) smiles and photo opportunities are all-american games - "we'll turn the gunfire to handshakes and blur all those memories that keep you awake".

but this is not an empty threat, a trial, this is the war that you made.
so i'll be the footsoldier who drags you from the wreckage, and makes you talk, stands you up straight.

my heart will steer this ship.
(she prays, prays that this will end differently)
my lungs will find dry land.

'She lives in a fairytale...

Somewhere too far for us to find...'

So we went to Reading festival and saw some amazing live music a few weeks back.  It rounded off a summer that for us as a band didn't involve much music making together.  We didn't book any shows over the summer as we had decided to spend the summer holed up in the studio that we wrote in last summer.  This didn't happen.  We tried a few times but the music just wasn't coming, so instead we all went on holiday.  We didn't really see each other for about a month.  Then when we got back we just hung out.  Five friends just hanging out with no instruments.  It was exactly what we needed.  Music was discussed but not as much as pretty much anything else that we could talk about instead.  Nando's had some regular visits and we even went to some local clubs.  Then when the music was ready to come (about two weeks ago) we headed to that very studio that was supposed to be our home for the summer and we now have two brand new songs that we are very proud of and can't wait to show everyone.

So basically a summer of rest and Reading Festival helped us find our way back to what we loved to do in the first place and now we are more excited than ever to play live again.  We have a lot to say and soon we'll get the chance.  With a one off headline show coming up, recording for an EP at the end of the year and a potential tour in early 2010 things are looking exciting for Girl Afraid.

So as Hayley Williams would say, 'Make sure to build your house brick by boring brick or the wolves gonna blow it down'

I'm not scared of nothing, I'll go pound for pound

Just got back from Reading festival which marks the end of the months of holidays that have been overlapping with the whole band. Im kinda bummed as summer now seems to be over and it was easily one of the best I've ever had.

Im not sure I like being back in the real world with the stress of work etc. rather than hanging out with loads of amazing friends (old and new) all day.

Reading festival this year has got me nice and excited about music again, and motivated me to keep writing. It's taken a while but finally a new set of songs is starting to fall together, at least in my head. A few more practices and we will be back, and hopefully stronger.

Keep listening and talking to us and we'll be back before you can say "Barack Obama".

Nando's last night. Will have band practice at some point, promise.

Hope this finds y'all well

Started with my feet

Nothing much to report. I'm coffeeing hard, got an unusually generous helping of sleep last night but I wouldn't believe you if you told me. Still on the same roast. Checked out some new music for the first time in ages - La Roux, Enter Shikari, Noisettes. Also picked up Minor Threat's first demo tape. Pretty ace.

Amie just showed me a video from a local show we played in a theatre in January - looked pretty awesome. Didn't realise quite how big it was at the time.

This weekend = first band practice in what feels like a year, but can in reality only be a couple of weeks. Holidays etc. Will keep y'all posted.

Getting a bit less busy as summer unfolds; will hopefully start coming on the msn account again if anyone wants to say hi. Add us up heregoeseverything@hotmail.com.

Anyone going to Taking Back Sunday at Camden Barfly? What a ridiculous date.

Soon

I literally

can't believe how good this Starbucks Columbian roast tastes right now. Second cup of the morning, flowing down me like a happy fountain.

Writing tonight, continuing the epic. We watched a couple of episodes of season five Curb last night, it's so obscenely funny I can't even describe it. Just check it out if you haven't already.

I'm pretty excited for Brand New's London show. Anyone coming? (Lee - I know you are already, you don't have to tell me).

It's proper raining

Thankfully though, it wasn't last night. So Rich & I took a stroll down to Riverside and worked on our new bonfire ditty "Thomas & The Good Book". It's about me and doubt.

Just thought you ought to know.

So So

If myspace, last.fm & our website's hit counter are to be believed, quite a few people have been checking out our jams these last couple of days. So thanks for that! We drove to a local studio last night and locked ourselves away for a few hours to basically figure out where we are as a band and start playing with some new ideas. It's a great freedom having no shows coming up in the near future - although we're going to miss the stage and the gorgeous people - this needs to be done. What we came up with last night was by no means a set direction or even something that is ever likely to see the light of day, but it was exciting to play and sounded like nothing any of us have created in the past.

Sleep sound,

Luke

PS if you need your fix of Rich Hall, Abandoner have a show at the Firestation (Windsor) on 19th June. If you need your fix of Tom Lane, check out Yes Boys! at Heroes (Maidenhead) on 11th June.

Wham

I heart TREK bars. I swear they didn't pay me to say that. They're just so tasty. Try the Cocoa Brownie flavour. Ace!

Ace

I am so over taking the tube. Gaslight were awesome last night, but it took me and Nathan approximately 4,000 hours to get home because somebody went through the wrong underground traffic light, or something.

Mama, we came to dance

So, tonight Luke and I are going to see Gaslight Anthem in London, seriously got itchy feet! Whilst I'm on the subject of feet, mine are super soft! Go indulge in some Peppermint foot care from The Bodyshop, It's amazing! That aside, hope everyone is well and enjoying the weather! In about an hours time, we'll be on route to the venue. Just thought I'd drop in a line.
